Technology developed over the last 5 years at CU alone has led to the creation of 51 firms, 42 of which are here in Colorado and many of which employ people in East Boulder County. One such company is Sundrop Fuels, located in Louisville, which is commercializing a promising new renewable energy technology that was invented at the University of Colorado. Another example is Abound Solar, a product of Colorado State University, which operates a manufacturing facility in Longmont. Technology firms like these provide high-paying jobs for people in our community and are fundamental to our local economic future. Fostering this growth will require continued and robust public investment in Colorado’s research institutions.
However, Colorado is now 47th among states in public funding for our higher education system. Since 2000, research and development spending at Colorado’s academic institutions has dropped from 12th to 19th in the U.S. A research grant program created by the state legislature for renewable energy technology has not yet received a single dollar in state funding. Our local economy needs this trend to reverse.
As a State Representative, I will fight to modernize our budget so we can make the investments that will create economic growth in East Boulder County and all of Colorado. With your help, we can win this campaign and get to work.
